The legendary shotgun developed in the USSR was considered a prestigious firearm and clearly demonstrated the high status of its owner. To this day, the model is still produced in the Russian Federation on a custom order basis. In addition to numerous design differences compared to its counterparts, the MC 106 hunting shotgun features a significantly improved attachment of the non detachable fore end to the barrels, which had been a weak point of the earlier MC 6 model. The fore end is secured to the barrels using threaded nuts.
To increase the strength of the connection between the fore end panels and the barrels, the bearing surfaces were enlarged by introducing an additional inter barrel insert. To prevent self loosening of the fore end tightening screws, collet type nuts were implemented, tightly gripping the threaded connection. The stock is made of walnut wood. Sling swivel mounts are installed on both the stock and the barrels. The firing mechanism with internal hammers and the trigger mechanism with two triggers are mounted on a single separate base.
The working compression of the mainspring is achieved when cocking the hammers during the barrel opening process. Cocking occurs simultaneously with unlocking and opening of the barrels. Spent cartridges are extracted from the chambers by a common extractor. The MC 16-12 hunting shotgun (No. 900302) is equipped with an automatic safety that locks the triggers when the barrels are opened.
The design of the shotgun prevents firing when the barrels are not fully locked, thanks to special cams on the rocker that provide preliminary hammer retraction. It also allows the shotgun to be placed on safety after a single shot. To do this, after the first shot, the safety button must be moved to its forwardmost position, a feature that was not available on the MC 6-12 model. Based on this platform, the MC 106-17 and MC 106-19 combination guns are produced, featuring a rifled lower barrel.
