In the Alien model, the barrel is located almost at the same level as the trigger axis and is essentially a continuation of the shooter’s extended arm. This solution minimizes the recoil leverage. The vector of the shot energy is directed strictly backward into the radius bone of the forearm rather than upward. As a result, muzzle rise is almost absent, allowing shooting at extremely high speed while maintaining control of the target environment.

The fixed barrel, rigidly mounted in the frame, also contributes to increased mechanical accuracy, eliminating the play typical for systems with a moving barrel.

Gas braking - an innovative operating system

To ensure stability and smooth operation, the designers abandoned the use of barrel recoil energy. The Alien operating system can be described as a gas-piston system with a delayed (semi-blowback) bolt.

This solution, which requires extremely high manufacturing precision, works as follows:

  • Gas venting - the gas vent hole has an extremely small diameter of only 1.6 mm. It is located just 5 mm from the chamber.
  • Delay - during the shot, part of the gases enters the chamber and acts on the gas piston. Unlike automatic rifles, here the piston does not push the bolt backward but instead slows its opening until the bullet leaves the barrel.
  • Configuration - the delay piston and the recoil mechanism rod are combined into a single U-shaped component located above the barrel. The gas piston is on the right side, and the recoil rod is on the left.

This system provides a smooth recoil impulse stretched over time and prevents sharp impacts of moving parts at the extreme points of their motion.

Sighting system - isolated precision

Another revolutionary solution is the design of the upper part of the frame. In traditional pistols, the sights are mounted on the slide and move with it during each reload cycle. In the Laugo Arms Alien, the sights are placed on a separate, fixed upper frame (Top Rail). The slide moves inside this frame.

This provides two fundamental advantages:

  • Constant visual control - the front sight or the red dot aiming mark remains stationary relative to the shooter’s eye. This eliminates the need to reacquire the sight after each shot and significantly reduces the time needed for target transitions and re-aiming.
  • Optics protection - the red dot sight does not experience destructive overloads caused by slide movement, which significantly extends its service life.

The factory mechanical sights consist of an adjustable front sight and a rear sight with a red optical indicator. The lower part of the frame also features a fixed Picatinny rail for installing tactical equipment (a flashlight or laser designator), expanding the pistol’s functionality beyond sports use.
