The Glock M78 was originally designed as a bayonet knife, although it did not gain wide adoption in this role for several practical reasons. On its own, it is a unique military knife featuring a narrow 5 mm thick blade with a black phosphate finish. The blade is made from Böhler carbon steel, offering excellent edge retention and high durability. When chopping bones or frozen wood, the blade resists dents and chipping.

This knife can be used as a versatile tool: it can remove door hinges, serve as a support tool, or be driven into hard surfaces. The construction withstands such stress without damage. Although the tang does not run through the entire handle, the knife rivals the strength of full-tang designs. The handle is made from Glock polymer, slightly softer than pistol frame polymer, ensuring a secure and comfortable grip.

The guard features an integrated bottle opener and can opener. In the butt of the handle there is a cavity sealed with a cap — this is not a survival kit compartment, but a socket for a bayonet adapter for the Steyr AUG rifle. The Glock M78 is widely regarded as one of the most reliable military knives in its price class. The black commercial version is known to be used by the German GSG 9 special unit, while the olive version is supplied to the Austrian military.
