The Applegate-Fairbairn dagger was developed in the 1980s by American Colonel Rex Applegate and inventor and combat instructor William Fairbairn. During its creation, they aimed to correct all the shortcomings of the knives used by British commandos during World War II. As a result, they produced a very well-balanced, simple, and at the same time elegant dagger, whose price made it suitable for mass production. Today it is featured in the catalogs of virtually any major bladed weapons store. The blade is made from 440C weapon-grade steel hardened to 58 on the Rockwell scale. The composite handle with a non-slip surface has an anatomical oval shape and provides a secure and comfortable grip. It is separated from the cutting edge by a small brass guard that not only protects the fingers from slipping but also serves as a thumb rest. The curved shape of the guard minimizes the risk of injury during thrusting strikes, while its golden color perfectly complements the knife’s design, adding a touch of elegance. Inside the handle, metal weights shift the center of gravity away from the blade. Although this is undoubtedly a fully functional combat knife, the Custom Leather version is also popular among collectors, as few enthusiasts do not dream of owning a dagger of such outstanding quality.
