J Dewey Manufacturing offers a range of bronze and nylon brushes, as well as cotton mops for firearms of various calibers. The manufacturer warns shooters against buying low-quality products that have a central twisted stem made of steel wire.
This is especially dangerous if the wire is cut at the top of the brush, creating sharp edges that may damage the firearm bore during cleaning. All Dewey brushes and mops feature a central twisted stem made of soft brass or aluminum, safely looped at the top.
Dewey nylon brushes have a central stem made of twisted brass wire and nylon bristles. They are designed for firearm cleaning with aggressive oils and cleaning agents, as synthetic bristles are not affected by them and do not dissolve, unlike bronze.
